IS A CHEAT DAY OKAY WHEN LIVING A RESTRICTED DIET?

IS IT OKAY TO HAVE CHEAT DAYS OR CHEAT MEALS WHEN YOU ARE ON A RESTRICTED DIET?? Well, if you are on a healthy diet you would have somehow felt how it is impossible to stick to a diet 100 percent of the time especially when you’re on a vegetarian diet that completely restricts animal products in your diet. But there’s a day when you’re out with your friends on a BBQ restaurant that only offers meat-based foods in the menu and you tried to resist the urge because you insist that it can only derail your healthy goals, but then again you are tempted to go for a ‘cheat day’. While it might seem like you are breaking the purpose of being in a strict diet, there is nothing wrong with indulging in a certain food every once in a while. Because every once in a while our body needs a break from all the healthy diet we do on a daily, as it’s okay to give ourselves a temporary break from all the strict diet rules we’ve been following and allow us to have a ‘cheat day’ to indulge in especially when the holiday is just around the corner and you have all those feasting foods on the table you crave for. As long as you know you are deserving of a day of a cheat meal and you don’t overdo it, you can sit back and enjoy the holiday as a special day with your family and enjoy your cheat meals with maximum enjoyment and minimal guilt.

There are people whose on a diet that doesn’t feel the need to add a cheat day in their few weeks of a diet, but when they start to feel worn out from not being able to eat their desired cravings and therefore do not want to continue sticking to a healthy diet because they think they aren’t allowed to do so, can be a burden for some and when they started growing tired overtime they began to quit. That being the case, by adding a ‘cheat day’ on your diet plan can be a helpful way to be able to not feel strained of being in a restricted diet. If a cheat day makes you feel guilty, you can always have a cheat meal instead. Cheat days or cheat meals are definitely necessary to maintain your sanity, so you will not grow wearisome of being in a healthy diet and instead feel motivated to continue doing so. 

You can plan for a cheat meal each week when you feel like you are deserving of it or if cravings urges you to do so, but you shouldn’t overdo it, as the point of a cheat meal is to giving yourself a break from measuring every portion and nutrients you are consuming on a daily and allowing yourself a little leisure to enjoy your favorite food cravings. The diet you take part in will help guide your ‘cheat meal’ as you have already adopted a mindset of living a healthy lifestyle which helps keeps you from thinking of going overboard and consuming much than what you actually needed. With that said, it is always helpful to plan your meal ahead to not be able to mess up your current diet and cheat too much, and if you think that you are cheating more than enough, you can always set your mind back to what it was, in order to reach your health goals to motivate you to get right back on track and use it as a way to learn how to handle and make better choices in a healthy lifestyle.

‘Even the most famous athletes have their favorite cheat meals”

The likes of famous Team USA athletes have cheat days which includes delicious desserts. Athletes such as ‘RICO ROMAN’ from ‘Team USA’ who is a U.S Paralympic gold medalist and a six-time IPC World Sled Hockey Challenge Champion’ says that he would go all out by eating doughnuts and his favorite Mexican Dish called ‘chilaquiles’ for a cheat day, while ELENA MEYERS TAYLOR, a two time World Champion described that she would have a big burger, fries, ice cream and soda for lunch while a steak, fries, and pizza for dinner. Former Wrestling Star turned Movie Star Dwayne ‘THE ROCK’ Johnson sat down on Food & Wine where he described what he likes to eat when he takes a break from his strict diet and says that ‘he tends to enjoy cheat meals once or twice a week and says that sharing them on his Instagram is part of the fun’ which you can actually see whenever you visit his Instagram page, his cheat meals consist of at least 5,000-6,000 calories according to him, and while it sounds absorbed, he’s actually not an average weighing human as he weighs 260 lbs. with a height of 6 ft. 5.  He does like his two cheeseburgers and a triple order of fries or an 18 sushi rolls, as well as his ‘double milk chocolate and peanut butter chip cookies with creamy peanut butter, smothered between the two cookies’ as he describes according to Us Weekly.

You might be wondering why I talked about these athletes cheating on their diet? Well, it was a way to tell you that even an athlete can have a cheat day themselves, so you won’t have to feel the guilt of eating your favorites once in a while. Don’t forget that they also work out, so you might as well engage more in physical activity to maintain your healthy lifestyle balance. Then Again, if these famous athletes are cheating on their diet with their favorite meals? Why can’t you? As I have said, if you think you are deserving of consuming your favorite cravings, you are free to do so, as long as you weren’t overindulging, you can always enjoy and cherish your favorite cravings.
