Some of us noted that healthy living means one’s physical and mental health are in balance and functioning well together. And yes, those components are closely linked and any shift which can either be good or bad can affects each other.
Food is an essential part of our daily lives not only for the maintenance of a healthy body but also for growth and we need various nutritional requirements that we should meet as infants, kids, teenagers, adults, and seniors.

Healthy Eating Habits
- As much as possible, eat three healthy meals daily. Please note that dinner does not have to be the largest meal of all.
- If you’re eating in bulk, it should consist of healthy foods such as whole grains, fruits and vegetables, and fat-free or those low-fat milk products. As you choose to have a healthy diet, you can incorporate lean meats, fish, poultry, beans, eggs, or nuts on your meal.
- Always choose food that is low in cholesterol, saturated fats, trans fats, sodium, and added sugar. Please do look at the labels and you’ll see the highest concentrations of ingredients.
- To decrease gastroesophageal reflux and weight gain, do avoid eating a large meal before sleeping.
- Vegetarians should first check with their physicians to be sure that an individual is getting enough minerals, vitamins, and iron in their diet.
Engagement to Physical Activity or Exercise
- This is one of the major contributors to having a healthy lifestyle.
- Exercising regularly can help improve one’s balance, endurance, flexibility, and decrease the risk of falls in the elderly stage. It also prevents having coronary heart disease, diabetes, obesity, osteoporosis, and high blood pressure.
- It can also help in increasing one self-confidence and decrease the stress and anxiety level as it helps in enhancing one’s mood and improve mental health as a whole.
- At least 30 minutes of excise like daily walking is recommended. It can also be broken up into small 10-minute routines or sessions.

- Always manage to get enough sleep.
- Having some mind exercise can help which can be by reading, or solving a puzzle occasionally.
- Try to have some leisure time and do something that interests you like your hobbies or any sports activities.

Quit bad habits like smoking
Avoidance of some behavior like the usage of tobacco and excessive alcohol consumption is another key to wellness.
- Quit the habit of smoking. You need to set a date for quitting which is within the following month because a date that is too far will only give you a chance to postpone and procrastinate.
- Excessive alcohol consumption is said to be the major cause of liver cirrhosis in the United States. To give you an idea liver cirrhosis can cause internal hemorrhage, mental confusion, infections, kidney failure to name a few.
It’s never too late to change your not-so-good habit and start over. Always choose to live on the healthiest path. It will surely take time but with consistency and perseverance, you’ll get to achieve your goals. Feel free to follow the above tips and get started today.
