  1. Genes: In deciding your skin color, your family background plays a key role. So, if you’ve got oily skin from any of your family members, you’re likely to have it too.
  1. Age: In young people, oily skin is evident, and as they grow older, the skin develops less and less sebum.
  2. Weather condition: You can be very susceptible to experiencing some oily skin in any weather if you live in a humid climate.
  3. Enlarged Pores: Big, noticeable pores of the skin appear to secrete more sebum than normal. This may be attributed to acne breakouts, problems related to age, or unexpected weight gain or decrease.
  4. Makeup and Cosmetics: Using heavy creams and pore-blocking products will simultaneously increase the development of oil and the risk of developing acne.

To treat oily skin, there is no need to visit a dermatologist. The answer is in your kitchen right there. In summer, here is a list of several home remedies for oily skin. A word of caution to ensure that your skin is not allergic to any product, always conduct a patch test.

  1. Oatmeal

For a range of skin and beauty needs, oatmeal can come in handy. It will suck up excess oil due to its absorbent properties and assist in treating acne. To get rid of dead skin cells, its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties aid. Oats also contain compounds that are considered to be natural cleansers, called saponins. They help extract the dirt and oil that clogs the pores, helping to exfoliate the skin. Oatmeal is also very hydrating. It tricks the skin into thinking it is already producing oil, thereby regulating the output of excess sebum. Tomatoes help to maintain the skin’s pH levels. A great ingredient for acne-prone skin is salicylic acid that is present in tomatoes. The acids present in tomatoes also help to absorb and unclog the pores of excess oil. Many antioxidants are also present in tomatoes. Let’s see how tomatoes can be used for oily skin.

  • Combine 1 tablespoon sugar with the pulp of 1 tomato.
  • Massage all over your face in circular motions.
  • Wash it off with warm water and pat dry.
  • Alternatively, you can also directly massage your face with tomato slices.
